DICK CHICKEN

DICK CHICKEN

Dick Chicken was created in 2002 by Holly-Anne Buck (Touch Me Tiger, aka Collagism) and Adam Milburn (Askii) while they were living in Tokyo. The Australian duo performed together in their audio-visual band, Mink Engine, with Dick Chicken becoming a standout track, performed at every live show. Over time, the character became synonymous with the band itself.

Mink Engine featured core members Askii and Touch Me Tiger, alongside a rotating crew of musicians, DJs, and performers. A regular special guest performer was Australian air guitar champion Barry Spam, who would burst onto the stage in a monkey suit to deliver an unforgettable air guitar solo during the big synthesiser solos of Dick Chicken. The shows were highly visual, with custom video projections for each song. Dick Chicken was always a crowd favourite… especially in big in Japan.

Between 2002 and 2009, Mink Engine performed over 100 shows across the globe, appearing in nightclubs, festivals, art galleries, and museums. The band played a vital role in Australia’s electronic music and art scenes during the 2000s.

Dick Chicken is a deep-fried chicken drumstick character with his own electro-pop anthem. Equal parts outrageous and allegorical, the MA-rated song tells the tale of an overlooked and over-endowed superstar chicken drumstick. Rejected and cast aside, Dick Chicken rises from the scrap heap to build a global fried chicken empire but there’s a twist in his tale...

The Dick Chicken song and video were officially released in 2005 on Pink Spunk Recordings via Juno Download and iTunes. It gained international attention, earning a spot in the Top 10 on the John Peel Show on BBC Radio 1 and receiving airplay on KISS FM, Triple J, PBS, RTR, Ministry of Sound Radio and man others. The video also saw TV play on RAGE TV and Video Hits.

To mark the 20-year anniversary of Dick Chicken, a new series of artworks has been commissioned by Daisy Green for Margot Green. In these new works, Dick Chicken is joined by his English cousin Chicken Dickens and Little Nugget, aka Nugs.

Although Adam Milburn (Askii) sadly passed away in 2022, his spirit lives on through Dick Chicken, a character loosely based on him.
